She is Professor at the University of Luxemburg. She defended her habilitation in Modern and Contemporary History in the University of Vienna (2018), holds a PhD from the Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium), and MA degrees in Slavic Studies (KU Leuven, Belgium) and European Studies (Jagiellonian University, Cracow). Prof Venken is the author of numerous publications, including Straddling the Iron Curtain? Immigrants, Immigrant Organisations, War Memories (2011), Borderland Studies Meets Child Studies. A European Encounter (2017), Borderland Pupils. The Polish_german and Belgian-German Periphery Compared (Berghahn Books, 2021). She will collaborate with Dr Claudine Marissal in designing the research on the Franco/Belgian/German borderland regions, and will research and coordinate case studies on borderland children, war veterans and migrant women workers.
