She is an expert on Ukraine and has published significant work on post-Soviet borders and borderland identities, commemorative politics and memory regimes, feminism and nationalism, gender, welfare state and family politics. She teaches at the Department of Political Science, University of Vienna, and currently prepares her habilitation on the politics of memory in Ukrainian borderlands. Her areas of expertise include memory studies, border studies, women’s and gender studies and Ukrainian studies. She is the author of Borderlands into Bordered Lands: The geopolitics of identity in post-Soviet Ukraine (2010) and contributor to several edited volumes. Dr Zhurzhenko will collaborate with Dr Gruziel in designing research on the Galician borderland while pursuing her own research on veterans in Ukrainian Galicia, 1945 to the present.
